Always sustainable

Lakeland Dairies is located in one of the most beautiful and diverse natural environments in the world. We are surrounded by 365 freshwater lakes and lush, green countryside. This land is what our co-operative is built on. It’s our duty to do more to lower our impact and protect it for generations to come.

Lakeland Dairies is a
proud member of
Origin Green and
Red Tractor Scheme

We partner with milk supplying family farms to put sustainability first; looking after the welfare of their animals, protecting the biodiversity of their farms and providing a market and income for their milk. Water usage, energy usage and waste management on farms are carefully monitored. Audits are also carried out to monitor environmental performance at farm level. This is supported through Bord Bia’s ‘Sustainable Dairy Assurance Scheme’ and other programmes which drive continual improvement.

Helping to sustain the long tradition of dairy farming in Ireland is very important to us. Dairy is our business and it’s the livelihood of the communities we operate in. We are committed to helping create sustainable communities through our partnerships with local farmers and also providing permanent jobs in the local community. This means that families can remain firmly rooted in the communities they grew up in. We’ve implemented several sustainability initiatives across our sites to help protect the natural environments we operate in.

Our sustainability promise

At Lakeland Dairies, we’re completely invested in developing a sustainability plan that incorporates every part of our business – our farmers, our sites, our environment and our local communities. However, it’s important that we can demonstrate our sustainability credentials to both our customers and our consumers too. That’s why we’ve partnered with respected organisations to help guide us on the journey. Click through to read about sustainability in action throughout our business.

Our Farmers

Our Farmers

Our farmers are the owners of our business. We have a network of 3,200 family farms spread throughout 16 counties in the northeast of Ireland, the dairy heartland of Europe. This network is the backbone of our business. Our farmers dedicate their around-the-clock care and attention to detail to provide us with a continuous supply of fresh milk throughout the year.
