Board of Directors
Lakeland Dairies Co-Operative Society is governed by its rules and controlled by the Board of Directors, made up of 14 members of the Society and one co-opted external director. The Chief Executive of the Society reports to the Board.
The Member Relations Unit co-ordinates the election process from shareholder to Board Member.
There are 12 electoral areas, each area electing a Regional Committee of 15 milk supplier shareholders. One Board Member is elected from each regional committee by the milk supplier shareholders in the relevant regional area. The term of office for Board Members is 4 years but the Member can be returned for a second term only, having gone through the election process again.
Northern Ireland milk supplier shareholders elect 2 members to the board every 4 year period.
The Chairman is elected annually by the board members.
Other key functions of the regional committees are:
- To make recommendations on the further development of the Society.
- To act as a channel for communications within the Society, keeping the Board informed on all relevant matters raised at local level and receiving regular communications and briefings from the local Board Member for dissemination to shareholders in the region.
